App Description:
Wee Pray – Pray With Me is a communication-based app that lets family members and loved ones set up profiles in the app with their own photographs and recorded prayers for various situations. Prayers can be recorded for mornings, mealtimes, occasions when extra love is needed, and for bedtime. Prayers can be easily selected by person (six profiles are available), or by prayer need. Each profile comes pre-loaded with sample prayer content that can give you ideas for how to get started in a few different styles – formal prayer, personal prayer, poetry prayers etc. – if you’re uncertain of how to pray for each need.
Each profile can also be customized by frame shape around the photograph and display name. The app allows you to both set up profiles from within the app for your child, AND to export your profile to a loved one by email, including your name, photo, and prayer recordings.
Looks best on the iPad, and good on the iPod as well.
What We Liked:
Wee Pray – Pray With Me is simple to use for both children and the adults who are setting up the pre-recorded prayers for their children. I love that it works remotely, so even if your loved ones aren’t with you to record the prayers for use in the future, you can receive recorded prayers by email and import them into the app.
I’m always excited to see apps developed to bring families closer together, and this one is particularly valuable for families separated by work (fathers who are in the military, who travel for work, long-distance truck drivers etc.), extended family members, and even for families where one parent works a shift where they miss out on important moments in a child’s routine – like bedtimes or meal times. This app could even be used during extended hospital stays – there are many situations it could be called into use for.
I can definitely see how using Wee Pray – Pray With Me can provide a sense of stability and ongoing love and reassurance even when loved ones are unable to be there in person.
This app provides such a tender expression of love from those who record the prayers to a child, and can be a deeply meaningful way to pass on spiritual values and affection from absent family members.
I haven’t seen many Christian apps in the marketplace yet; I’m always excited to see products designed to draw children and families closer to their Creator.
What We Didn’t Like:
The provided artwork is caricature-like which isn’t a style I particularly enjoy, but it is really just a placeholder for pictures of the REAL loved ones you want your children to be able to hear praying for and with them.
This app can be used for all ages but some children may feel that the art makes them feel a bit babyish at a certain point in their development – the icon and opening screen actually portray a baby/toddler praying) – this depends largely on your child. The backgrounds are done in pastels – blue, pink, and yellow, and the prayer needs are represented by teddies, so it’s definitely geared for younger children esthetically. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it might limit the apps implementation in families with older children.
Overall:
Wee Pray – Pray With Me is a unique tool that can be used to bless children with the presence of praying loved ones even though they are far away or otherwise unavailable.
