Reading Raven App Review

Finally – a seriously educational app that leads children from early phonological awareness and phonics right up to reading full sentences while integrating printing skills and teaching through games. Reading Raven is an incredible learn-to-read app, easily the best I’ve encountered to date in the App Store. I’m in love, and so are my kids.

ABC Day App Review

ABC Day contains a sweet variety of early literacy activities that are cute and nicely designed for young children. The navigational options and inclusion of both lower and upper case, letter names and phonics, alphabet book, song, and tracing practice will make this app a great comprehensive choice for Pre/K once a few more kinks are worked out. Keep an eye on this one.

Super 3D Alphabet App Review

Super 3D Alphabet includes a nice range of games and activities to reinforce the connections between letter names and their upper case written forms. With five different activities included: 3D puzzles, two memory games (visual and acoustic), find the letters, and a letter tracing activity – there are a lot of reinforcement opportunities here. Some shine – like the puzzles – others are best passed – like the letter tracing – but overall there’s a nice assortment of solid activities in this app.

ABCKit App Review

ABCKit is a well-rounded, multi-sensory early learning app that includes plenty of phonetic reinforcement throughout three learning activities (Know, Hear, Write) in three languages (English, Spanish, Catalan). This isn’t a splashy app, but it can serve as an effective teaching tool for pre-readers and early foreign language students.

Pre-K Letters and Numbers

Pre-K Letters and Numbers is an app designed to teach children to print their letters (both upper case and lower case a-z), write their numbers (1-9, and 0), and even to write two letter together to form two-letter blends – most of these are what are referred to as digraphs, r-controlled vowels, and vowel teams in intensive phonics programs (sh, er, oo etc. I counted 20 of these more advanced phonics teams.)
