Finally – a seriously educational app that leads children from early phonological awareness and phonics right up to reading full sentences while integrating printing skills and teaching through games. Reading Raven is an incredible learn-to-read app, easily the best I’ve encountered to date in the App Store. I’m in love, and so are my kids.

I unreservedly recommend Bob Books #2. Not only is it both educationally sound and phonics-oriented, my children thankfully love it as well. Whether you use letter names or letter sounds to read and spell with, Bob Books #2 will work for your family with its flexible settings. It will gently move your child towards spelling and reading simple words and sentences and he’ll have fun doing it!

Native Numbers goes far beyond your standard flashcards or object counting app by developing a rich, integrated understanding of quantity and numbers through 25 comprehensive activities that incorporate a wide range of educational approaches. This is the kind of app that should really be the standard for interactive education, but sadly, is almost impossible to find. I’m so glad that it’s been developed!

Interactive Alphabet ABCs is a classic alphabet app, containing everything a parent could want in a digital ABC book while having clear, simple navigation that even toddlers can work with. The much-loved Old Schoolhouse Magazine is now available for free, in a handy, practical digital edition that is served up directly to the free app of your choice (available in several operating system platforms). This app has made it onto my 'no-brainer' list of apps to have loaded on my devices, it just makes sense to install this easy to navigate magazine that is always filled with helpful insights and encouragement for homeschooling parents.

Noodle Words is the most fun I’ve ever had exploring words with my children. We sat down together and laughed, and tapped, and giggled – the words and bugs not only intrinsically demonstrate the meaning of each word, but they also have an awful lot of fun doing so! I hope new word sets are coming soon.

Incredibly full functioned, easy to use, comprehensive, and professionally designed – this is our go-to articulation app. It is WELL worth your time to take the free version of this app through its paces – whether you buy individual modules or the full Pro version, I strongly feel this app is a great investment.

The Adventures of Robin Hood has only strengthened my opinion that the multilingual storybook apps produced by Chocolapps (previously So Ouat!) provide the most feature-filled read along experience available in children’s storybook apps today.

The Traditional Storyteller apps are completely irresistible - engaging, vibrant introductions to classic folk stories that tools that help children practice vital language arts skills. I simply can’t think of a more enjoyable way to practice sequencing, narration, and summarizing. Almost better than a live storytelling performance at a library - these can be enjoyed on demand for years to come.
